At Onward Learning Solutions, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all methodology.
While we do have a preferred methodology, which we will highlight below, we are more than happy to use your preferred methodology. There is one particular design framework that guides how we design learning as an organization...
THE SHOP Model
This model is very simple, incorporate elements of learning that help encourage one of the three element of the model - surprise, humor or play. By doing so consistently throughout each learning experience, we can introduce the elusive fun factor often missing from many modern-day learning offerings.
Our Design Methodology
We don’t prescribe to the idea that one framework or methodology is always the right one for every organization. If you prefer we use your own organization's design methodology, we'll be more than happy to accommodate.
For our design process, we use aspects of the Agile, ADDIE and SAM methodologies to build a robust and adaptive learning design process that can be uniquely tailored to the demands of each client. Below, we describe the three core steps of our design process...
01
Planning & Preparation Through Empathy Building
At the beginning stage, we focus on building empathy with the future learners by having a robust discussion about what skills or competencies need to be transferred and why. Additionally, we really want to get down to what fun means to them and produce a list of potential fun elements we can add to the course.
02
Rapid Development Through Prototyping to Alpha & Beta
In this intermediate stage, we iterate, iterate and iterate with your subject matter experts to arrive at a minimum viable product or alpha version of the learning experience than can be tested with few or many learners to gauge initial feedback. After further iterations, we synthesize our findings and prepare a beta version for final development.
03
Final Development from Beta to Gold Standard & Evaluation Development
At the final stage, we take all we’ve learned through step 1 and multiple iterations of step two to produce a gold standard or final version. Additionally, during this step, we will develop an evaluation framework that will gauge learning effectiveness and quality.
